Concept of IHE-J
Chairman of the IHE-J Planning Committee Prof. Takeo Ishigaki
The introduction and improvement of medical image management systems and hospital information systems has changed the methods of information exchange that previously relied on paper, as well as the provision of images that relied on film.
This has significantly changed the flow of the whole medical system.
However, although electronic information technology has made the system more certain and convenient, medical professionals who actually work in the field will often come up with simple questions such as "Why can't such a simple thing be done?" in various situations.
When users ask vendors to make improvements, they are frequently not satisfied with the results. This is not because something particular is responsible for the problem, but because such problems cannot be avoided in the process of introducing information technology.
When information systems related to the medical field are introduced, medical staff should find them easy to use, and the overall quality of medical care should be improved. This is the goal of IHE.
IHE-J needs to absorb the achievements of advanced Western IHE, while fully utilizing the advantages of Japan's unique cultural and social environment, and its established medical systems.
By doing so, we aim to demonstrate specific system models and guidelines for information systems design, and promote the use of medical information that meets the demand of Japan's daily hospital operations beyond interdepartmental information exchange.
